Simon and Julia were married at her grandfather’s cabin in the Northwoods. Julia has spent many a summer on the lake in Eagle River Wedding Venues and it served as the perfect backdrop for their nuptials. Guests arrived via pontoon and were escorted to their seats in white wooden chairs near the water’s edge. Their friends and family traveled from across the globe to be there and celebrate with them. I don’t think these two could have been any more in love on their wedding day and the natural beauty of Wisconsin was truly on display for their Aussie attendants to enjoy. From the first look to their first dance, emotions, and excitement fueled their day and allowed for many personal moments between the bride and groom that we often don’t see on a traditional wedding day.
Instead of having a traditional wedding cake, they enjoyed a variety of pies, Wisconsin cheeses, and raspberries. Subtle accents of pine and eucalyptus were used throughout their table and floral decorations. Simon’s blue jacket, hat, and bow tie made for great accent pieces with an Australian flare. A highlight of the day came near the end of the dinner during both the mother of the groom speech and also during the dance when Simon serenaded us all and didn’t leave a dry eye in attendance. It is in these moments that we find ourselves truly blessed to be in the presence of such remarkable people who have found each in serendipitous circumstances.

This year instead of heading out west, we decided to go Nort’! This July 7th, Katie and I will be celebrating our 8-year wedding anniversary. We honeymooned in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and thought it would be fun to show the kids some of our favorite destinations and give them a history lesson in J&K. We stayed in a quaint little cottage near the beach on the Les Cheneaux Islands at the Hills Point Resort. We took day trips into St. Ignace and Mackinaw City to walk the pier and visit Fort Michilimackinac. The kids were able to play in the sand and explore in the kayaks – really just be kids. Katie and I hope one day to bring all of our children and grandchildren to enjoy the beauty of Northern Michigan. Our lives have changed so drastically over the last 8 years. We an only imagine what life will look like 10, 20, 30 years from now. We’re so thankful for the opportunity to escape for a few days during the year. Vacation rarely is relaxing, but it is always an adventure!
Hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July! We’re so very blessed in this country – may God continue to bless this Nation and our children.
Heather and Zac scheduled their engagement 1 year to the day of their Wausau winter wedding at the Hill of Beans, located at the High Point Village in Ogema, Wisconsin. This gem of the northwoods offers not only a gorgeous backdrop, but some excellent food & lodging for those looking to escape the city life. Timm’s Hill is just a short jaunt up the road from here making it one of the best places to snowshoe. For these two, Northern Wisconsin was the ideal location for their snowy engagement session; a few flurries didn’t impeded on their rustic adventure! Very much looking forward to their February 2016 wedding.
